Semantics

Tom was out of town last weekend (pause for dramatic effect)(insert shock and awe)(add comment about me being the best ever and Tom being the worst ever)(remember that people do stuff like this all the time and your whining might induce a lot of justified eye rolls)(regain consciousness and move on).

One of the many, many coping mechanisms I employed while I was abandoned home all weekend is that we had lots and lots of special treats. The best of all, the one the kids looked most forward to, was ordering pizza and watching a movie on Saturday night. We’ve never done that, not even once, and my kids COULD NOT BELIEVE someone was bringing a pizza to our house.

So anyway, we’re eating pizza and watching Toy Story 3, and we get to the part where Andy is deciding what to do with his toys. Does he donate them? Does he put them in the attic? THE TRASH? Or does he take a few to college?

I asked my kids, when you go to college what special toy would you want to take with you?

David: I don’t know…maybe Eyeball? (A Beanie Baby Siamese cat that he named Eyeball and carried around with him from ages three to five. Eyeball still lives on David’s bed.)

Mary: (without hesitation) My pink puppy. (Incidentally, I have no idea what pink puppy she’s talking about. I figured she’d choose Spirit or her American Girl doll.)

Thomas: (climbs into my lap and brings his face close to mine) Mommy, I would bring you.

Unrelated photo of Thomas pretending to eat a mud sandwich that he made. The actual lunch I made for him was untouched, still on the deck. I’m sure he’ll change his mind when the time comes, but if he doesn’t I’d love to go to college with Thomas. Seems like it’s going to be a great time.
