Semantics – did you hear the one about the big brother?

Early one morning, Thomas started his day by pestering all of us to tell him a scary story. He tried me, Tom, and eventually landed on David as the most likely to come up with something good.

They were sitting together eating waffles for breakfast and even though Thomas had  been told no several times by his big brother, he kept at it.

“David, PLEASE! Tell me a scary story!” he begged, while pouring syrup over his waffles.

David rolled his eyes and finally said FINE!

Instantly rapt, Thomas put down his fork and a huge smile spread across his face.

Without looking up from his waffles, David began, “Did you hear the one about the kid who poisoned his little brother’s syrup?”
