Mother – daughter time

I told myself I’d never straighten her hair, but today she needed some Mama time. I did her hair and listened as she talked about Pound Puppies, and I told her about my girlfriends in college who used to straighten and curl my hair. When I lifted her onto the counter, I didn’t notice that my compact fell into the sink. As we talked, she smashed my broken makeup with her toe.

Straightening her hair took longer than I thought it would, and she loved it even more than I expected. I know that every kid loves one-on-one time, but it’s easy to forget that focused, quality time is like medicine.

She loves her straight hair, and when she was looking in the mirror told me, “Mommy, just because you change how you look on the outside, it doesn’t change who you are on the inside.”

That’s really cute. Love and life is happening all around us – but mostly in the small moments with the people we love. My son is 18 months old and doesn’t say a whole lot yet. Although I want him to stay my little baby forever and ever, I am looking forward to the day where he says something like this to me! Thanks for posting this!

  6. I have three girls + it’s hard to make time to do one-on-one with them yet it’s sooooo important. I have to constantly remind myself to put down my phone more, put away ,y computer more + just spend 10 quality minutes focused on one of them at a time. You’re right. It doesn’t have to be an all-day outing. All they need is 10 minutes of focused one-on-one time. Thanks for the reminder 🙂

She is so sweet! She is wise beyond her years. I mean, how can a child say those things? That is one precious moment for you and your daughter! Makes me wish my kids were still that young.

Oh what a sweet story <3 I remember my pound puppies like it was yesterday! I didn't realize they were still a thing but that makes me happy for our girls when they are old enough to talk about their toys 🙂
