A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2016
David / David and Brigham, hanging on the couch like bros.
I used to write about David and Brigham’s relationship a lot, back when David loved to lay on Brigham and Brigham used to beg me to put him in the Witness Protection Program.
Things have changed in the past few years. Now, given the choice between a 4-year old, a 2-year old, a 12-month old, or an over-tired, under-showered mom who has accidentally locked him in the bathroom more than once, the 4-year old wins every time.
Mary Virginia / Napping with Quacky, Frosty Duck, Duck-a-duck, and Gracie Duck. Not pictured: Polly Esther Duck, Jeannie Duck, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Piggy Duck, Monkey Duck. (Just to name a few.)
It takes over an hour for Mary Virginia to fall asleep most days — if she sleeps at all. That hour is the most dreaded, stressful hour of my day. The whole ordeal is so terrible that I’m tempted to give up on the nap completely. Then there are days like this, when I have to wake her up and I remember how much my little Cinderella still needs her nap.
Thomas / This weekend Thomas was baptized, and after the worship service we had an early birthday party for him. My gregarious, happy boy was grumpy and unsure the whole time. Even enjoying his cake, he looked at me like, “Why are we doing this?”
He woke up from his nap ad all our guests were gone. He immediately started playing with his newly-assembled toys — happy and laughing like he always is.
Love the picture of David with the cat! My kids love looking at your weekly pictures of your kids. Each week they say “What are their names again? How do you know them?” And I go through that I don’t know them, I went to college with their mom who I thought was one of the coolest people I ever met back in 2002, and she has continued to not disappoint in “cool factor” and “look up to-ability”. 🙂
hahah! thank you, that’s very kind. you would be amazed at how my coolness factor has all but diminished 😉
