Deciduous mandibular central incisors

Last weekend Thomas’s bottom teeth finally poked through.

They took forever.

I’m not exaggerating, I could SEE them just under his gums for a month. A MONTH. I don’t know what happened. Maybe they forgot something and had to go back? Maybe they ran out of gas on the way? I have no idea.

I just hope the rest of his teeth come in with a little more urgency. For his sake, of course. (I hear teething can be painful.)

About two years ago I wrote a post with a recipe for homemade teething biscuits.

It was featured on Parenting.com, and after the feature, it got some traction on Pinterest, and Pinterest is the reason it will forever be my most visited post.

It’s weird, because it’s not my favorite post. In fact, it’s not even in the running. I like this one and this one and this one much more. I loved writing this one. And if one of my crafts deserves attention, it’s this one.

People still comment on that post, and even ask questions about the recipe. Can you omit the cinnamon? What if you use half apple sauce and half sweet potato? What about instant flavored oatmeal? Any idea why a batch turned out chewy, not hard?

I answer the questions as well as I can, but the truth is I’ve only made it once. The truth is, even though I currently have a teething baby in my house, I haven’t made homemade teething biscuits for him. I haven’t made them because who has time for that? I do not.

Also because, the other day Mary Virginia dropped a pickle on the floor, and I had no idea until a few hours later when I noticed a faint vinegar smell coming from the kitchen.

And when I checked, I found my baby looking very much like he was a few gulps away from swallowing an alligator.

I haven’t made any teething biscuits, because I haven’t had time and because he discovered pickles. So far they’re working just fine.

Hi there! I have seen such a cute kid with your post, and also I really admire how you take good care of your child. You have such a skill! I myself have also a daughter which is turning 4 months old. I am a new mom and I am very excited about everything that is happening in my child. Thinking that she’ll be having some teething activities soon, I have been trying to search some information regarding teething and anything about children. I love researching and knows new things.

I love your honesty, the fact that you didn’t freak out that he ate a pickle off the floor, and that you give him regular food to munch on! We need more moms like you 🙂
