It’s cold outside! Throw on another layer with ModCloth

The other day I picked up my purse and the strap broke. It’s been breaking for a while; it has a lot of bead work and it had started falling apart. But, like most things in my life, I ignored it because snacktime and book time and taking toys from your sister time does not wait for purse shopping.

Then, just a few hours after my purse broke, ModCloth contacted me and asked me if I’d like to create a styleboard to showcase my wardrobe layering transition picks. And instantly I thought, how does the Internet know how badly I need a new purse? I looked at my broken purse, looked at ModCloth.com, looked at my broken purse, and, well, the rest is history. Fashion history.

This collection had a lot of inspirations: comfort, warmth, versatile pieces I could wash and wear over and over and over again.

Even though I need a new purse, I started with this cardigan. ModCloth has a lot of sweaters and cardigans in this category — comfy, cozy, cool, and really versatile; it was hard to choose from the entire collection (www.modcloth.com/shop/cardigans). I love it because it’s warm, generous, and fits well with my style.  And the rest? Low-heeled boots I can wear to the playground or the pediatrician, and then also to girls’ night without looking like a total mom. A purse that’s big enough to double as a diaper bag, sunglasses and a bright scarf to brighten up my sleep-deprived eyes, a bracelet that will occupy my 19-month old for at least five minutes, or until she asks me what the octopus says and I have to distract her with a cracker.

Here’s one thing I didn’t take into consideration when putting this together: pregnancy. Want to know a secret? I avoid maternity clothes like the plague. They’re generally poorly designed (or very expensive), make you look a lot bigger than you are, and you only need them for a few months. Instead, I stay in stretch pants and oversized shirts as long as possible. When I do have to go to the maternity dark side, I avoid anything with a bow on my belly and try to keep things as basic as possible; solid shirts and pants paired with awesome accessories. For example, did I mention this cardigan?

I just got a new MOM bag- the kind that doubles as a purse, diaper bag, first aid kid, toy box, partial closet and pantry. I LOVE the giant Mom bag. Just like I love Mom jeans and turtlenecks. There’s no hope for me. 😉
But this inspiration board is awesome! I LOVE that sweater too. I hope you can score every last item on this list!
