No one will ever accuse me of being the “fun mom”

Yesterday, on the second day of spring, Richmond had a surprise morning snow shower.

It’s snowed probably three or four times in David’s life, and I’ve never really taken him out in the snow. Boo, hiss, what kind of mother am I? I KNOW! But I have good reasons. Reasons like: when it’s snowing outside, it’s cold outside.

My mom happened to be in town for a quick visit, and when David started asking to go outside she immediately suited up. Snow coat? Flannel-lined jeans? Firefighter boots? Let’s go outside.

On her way out she was muttering something about how dare I not let him play in the snow when his cousins in Taiwan would do anything to get to play in a snow shower.

It was cold, so I snapped two photos from our patio, then darted back inside where it was warm and I  could eat a bowl of Lucky Charms and watch Sesame Street in peace.

my kids miss snow, which is so weird to me because in the past they have stayed outside for like eight seconds before crying about being cold and coming inside. now I know childhood memories aren’t always the MOST accurate, but didn’t it seem like we stayed out a long time? like a looooong time? thirteen hours, give or take?

yeah, i feel like we stayed out for a long time. but maybe we were older? i feel like it’s hard to gauge childhood memories because it’s hard to remember how old we were. plus, we had all of franklin county to trollop around in, sledding and making snow caves 🙂

Mom is right. Ellie cries at least once each winter over when she will be able to see snow.

Then again, I had a friend over and she started playing hide-and-seek with the kids. She said to me, “Wow! They love this!” to which I replied, “Yeah, I don’t really play with my kids.” It seems I’m not a fun mom either.

haha. once i was at jenny’s and her kids had been playing upstairs. her husband came home and was like, “Have you seen the carnival the kids made upstairs??” she rolled her eyes and said, “No. I’ve LIVED the carnival all day.”
Now that moment makes a lot of sense to me 🙂

there are kids that wish they could see Sesame Street though, right? you ARE a fun mom, just a fun-mom-who-likes-to-play-indoors-in-the-winter 🙂
