So much indecision about a shower curtain

I’ve mentioned before that I don’t have a great eye for decorating. I’m indecisive, and have a hard time imagining the final product. When I see finished rooms in magazines and other people’s homes, it’s easy for me to pick out what I like and don’t like. But putting it all together is a whole different matter.

When Tom and I first looked at our current house, I remember walking into the bathroom and mentioning how much I liked the shower curtain. It’s a toile pattern with a matching valance, and very nice.

However, after a year here I just decided it wasn’t me. There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just that it’s not what I would pick out.

I’d rather something a little more fresh and bright.

I had a gift card to Urban Outfitters and, surprise surprise, they have awesome shower curtains. I ordered three, because I just couldn’t decide. (And because they have free shipping for orders over $50, so why not?)

As soon as I took down the valance, the bathroom looked brighter and more open. Next, I hung each shower curtain. When I told Tom I needed some help with the shower curtains, he had no idea that what I meant was, “will you help me put up, take down, mull over, put up, take down, put up, mull over, take down, put up, and continue mulling over shower curtains for the next 8 hours with me.”

First up, this gray chevron pattern.

Cool, right? Modern, clean, bright.

Next, the floral pattern.

Also bright and fun.

We also got this purple one. It was really really pretty (even prettier than on the UO site) but it didn’t work well with our blue walls so we didn’t even bother taking a photo.

It was a hard decision because I really liked both. I kept each up for an entire day so I could get used to them and see what they in different light.

Eventually I decided to go with the floral.

The grey zigzag seemed like the safer option, but if I’ve learned anything from 10 season of Project Runway, it’s that the safe option isn’t always the best option. Plus, in person the colors didn’t coordinate as well as they do in the photo. Instead of complementing each other, it almost looked like I tried to match the color and missed.

Meanwhile, the floral just made me happy. And if that’s not a reason to choose a shower curtain, I don’t know what is.

Now that I’ve got this fancy new shower curtain, I’m starting to second-guess our light fixture.

And in other bathroom news, David has discovered the toilet, toilet paper, and has learned to turn on the shower.

I guess it’s his way of saying he’s a fan of the new shower curtain.

I love the floral curtain! I’m needing to find one for our bathroom renovation project, so I totally understand what you’re saying. So many other things in the project have been so much harder to do. How hard can it be to buy a curtain, right? Um, really hard. At least for me. 🙂

    What a happy baby! Sweet.
And I agree with "it makes me feel happy" being a valid decorating technique.

What a cutie! Love that last shot :)
The floral one does add a nice pop of color — and if it makes you happy, definitely stick with it. WM is all about creating the beautiful!

I love it! You made the right decision. I also struggle with putting a room together – definitely not my talent. But you did a great job here!

I’m popping over from Pancakes and FF. I just had to say–I HAVE THE SAME ONE!! (Did you read the reviews? I’m the one who said I washed it with a cup of salt and the colors still ran. DON’t wash it!) And, I agonized forever. We have an old pink tile bathroom, and since we can’t afford a remodel, we opted for paint and new shower curtain. It made a HUGE difference. Love your redo!

i DID see your review — after i purchased it and posted this. I’m watching my curtain for signs of running. why would they make a shower curtain with colors that run!?
