Brave Mary

This summer will go down in history as the summer that Mary looked her fear in the eye, balled it up, and stomped on it.

She became confident on her bike, is a completely independent swimmer, and went to summer camp all by herself.

These are huge accomplishments for a little girl.

Mary and I spend a lot of time talking about fear and worry, confidence and trust. I try my best to explain that being brave doesn’t mean never feeling afraid. Instead, bravery is feeling afraid, and taking steps forward anyway.

It’s really hard to be brave. It takes a lot of thought and maturity, strength and determination. You have to trust the right voices and quiet the rest. You have to truly believe that Jesus is with you, and believe that that truth matters.

Mary is the bravest girl I know.
