Even though I work really hard to limit his screen time, David is a full-on TV-loving kid. He’ll watch anything, anytime, anywhere and if the TV is off, he asks me non-stop if we can turn it on. He tries different techniques all the time: “I have a good idea, Mommy! Let’s watch TV!” Or my favorite, “But, Mommy, we haven’t watched TV in a long day!”
The other day he asked to watch TV and I was trying to avoid a tantrum by talking to him (and changing the subject) instead of saying yes or no. I was hoping he’d forget about it and just move on.
David: Mommy, can we watch TV?
Me: David, you really love TV, don’t you?
David: I do, Mommy! TV is my favorite! I love TV!
Me: David, which do you love more, watching TV or playing with Caleb?
David looked at me, horrified, as if he was ashamed of me for even asking him to make such a terrible, miserable choice.
David: MOMMY! I love TV and Caweb THE SAME!
hahaha that’s so cute. it’s a good and bad thing. i have a friend with a little boy who could care less about TV. now that is an entirely different situation…but it IS nice sometimes to have a kid that likes TV. Maddie likes it for about 2 shows, then she’s off to bigger and better things.
The best thing ever; watching TV with Caleb.
Adorable! I love the innocence of children and their honesty! My two year old is in love with the Ipad and even though he plays educational games, I really need to limit his screen time. It may mean tantrum central, but I need to start! Thanks for sharing with the Saturday Soiree Blog Party!
These conversations are such sweetness to remember! Best of luck, TV/games/etc is an ongoing battle.
Ha! I’m pretty sure my kid would say something similar. (And actually, come to think of it, I would have too, as a child. But now I’m grown, I never, ever, watch TV. So, yeah. The internet, though…that’s another story!)
