In. Out.

This year I made a goal to give away one item every time I acquire a new item. One thing in, one thing out.

At the start of 2014 we took a few bags Goodwill to wipe the slate clean after Christmas purchases and gifts. I don’t think I’ve bought any new clothes or home items since then. But, to be honest, this makes me realize how little I think about buying things — I honestly can’t remember what purchases I’ve made in the past three months. It’s just so easy to pick up something for the house at Target, or buy a book at Amazon without thinking…things that I will have to pick up off the floor, will take precious storage space, and will ultimately clutter our home. And I don’t even like shopping.

Last Sunday I was at the mall and found this shirt for 40% off, so something had to go. I chose this grey H&M sweater. I bought it in 2007. We can we all agree that clothes from H&M aren’t designed to last that long, right?

For good measure, I’m also donating a belt that’s peeling and cocktail jacket I bought to wear with a dress that I no longer own. I’ve held on to the jacket for over five years just in case. But if I haven’t worn it in five years, perhaps just in case might never come. When I unearthed it from the closet, I realized I didn’t even like it anymore. It looks like it’s made out of upholstery.

Nothing helps lighten the load like replacing 100% polyester with light, summery 100% cotton.

I’m in love with that J. Crew top! I never really venture into JC because I always think of it as too pricey for my needs, but that 40% top is soooo cute, and not too bad on price either. reminder to myself: check the sales!

Good for you on giving things away after you bring something new in to the closet. I like that idea!

I love de-cluttering! Great way to keep your closet breathing by getting rid of something to bring something in. I am always going though my clothes and sending them off to a new home!

Visiting from the link up. That is a very good rule to follow! I wish I could follow it but I just can’t make myself do it right now. Maybe someday I can get rid of the clothes I will never wear again. 🙂
