virginia is our home, we love it, and it was accordingly our very first state in our fifty states project. the highest point in VA is Mt. Rogers, which is in southwest virginia, near abingdon.
mt. rogers is a great highpoint because you actually have to hike to get to the summit. most of the state highpoints in the east and midwest have roads to the top or very close to the top. not so for mt. rogers, which is fine by us.
this is the bad part about writing a review almost a year after the fact – i don’t remember that many details. we had a good time, the hike was nice, saw some wild horses, met a highpointing family, and got our first “summit” photos. the actual summit is covered in trees and has no view at all.
