All of David’s cousins have blogs documenting their childhoods and I often read through the archives to see what his cousins were doing when they were his age, what their temperament was like, sleeping patterns, etc.
Recently I read this entry on my sister’s blog about how a “maturity light switch” was flipped around 10 to 11 months.
After I read it, I started watching David a little closely. Had his maturity light switch been flipped? At 11.5 months he was still happiest throwing cars and sitting on the cat.
We have a stacker just like Ellie had, and I started being a little more purposeful about showing him how to use it. We’ve been practicing for more than a month and the whole time he’s been taking the rings from my hand and throwing them. Maturity!
And then today he took the ring and put it on the stacker like, “Fine, I did it. Happy now, MOM?”
We kept playing for a while, but then the base of the stacker tipped sideways and David tried to smash the ring on it.
If you have any understanding of physics or the properties of matter you know this isn’t going to work.
But David’s not quite there yet and he started getting upset.
I helped him right the base and showed him, “LOOK! Now the ring fits!”
But the damage was (understandably) done and he could think of nothing to do but throw himself to the ground, roll around, and wail.
Who taught my son to throw tantrums? Was it you?
Maturity!
Believe it or not I think all kids go through that stage. Some are just a tad more dramatic. David Andrew, just wait, you can tell Grammy all about it.
i love it!
Hahaha! So funny. John Amos throws fits like this. Very pathetic.
