To celebrate Mary Virginia’s birthday, I put together a little slideshow of some of my favorite photos and videos from the past year.
You can watch it below, or here.
There are two things I think of when I watch the slideshow.
First, I am woefully out of touch with new music. I think the last “new” band I listened to was Something Corporate in 2002.
Tom is shaking his head reading this, but it’s true whether he likes it or not. His old Avail albums from high school do not count as “new” music.
Second, when Tom and I watched this together, he asked if it made me cry. Nope, and here’s why: If you’ve ever made something like this, you know that through the editing process you end up watching it over 500 times in 2-second intervals. That’s what I’ve been doing for the past week or so, watching, editing, fixing, moving, adjusting volume levels, getting frustrated with my software, watching again. So when I watch this it’s with a critical eye, fixating on things I’d rather change. By the time I finished and exported it, I’d almost memorized the order of the photos. The whole thing practically becomes rote.
Then I showed it to David. He loves the slideshow I made for his birthday, but he might love this one even more. As the slides rolled, he shrieked, “There’s me! There’s Mommy! There’s Caleb! There’s Pops! Look, Mary ‘ginia, there’s you! THERE’S LIGHTNING A-QUEEN!”
Several photos, and all the videos, make him laugh out loud, and every time the song changes he says, “This is my favorite song!”
Watching him enjoy it so much made me enjoy it anew.
I hope you like it, too.
Well it made me well up a bit! It made me remember all the milestones of our girlies!
WOW you did such a beautiful job on this!!! I totally get feeling like it’s just a rote thing after all that work – but I bet in a month once your carpal tunnel wears off, you’ll be loving it. This makes me sad I haven’t done something like this… guess it’s never too late to start!! Did you use only “good” photos from your camera, or also ones from your phone? Love my phone of course, and all the spontaneous stuff I can grab, but it has sadly replaced many pictures I would’ve taken with the good camera.
THANKS! i really love watching both of them — it’s fun to watch them when they get a bit older and can recognize familiy members, etc. david still doesn’t get the “when i was a baby” thing, but someday he will and i hope he likes it.
i think i only used pics from my nikon. i used phone videos, though. i REALLY even prefer the videos from my nikon, but they’re harder to get.
I love this!! Crazy how much they grow in just one year – and how much hair David grew during that time too!!
I love this, but I was actually born in 2013, not 2014!!!
